In this video we'll have a look at a few features found on the M1008 CUCV or CUCV truck made by the Chevrolet division of General Motors for the Military and we'll also cover how to modify the fuel system of a 6.2 or 6.5 GM diesel engine by adding a one way check valve at the fuel filter inlet. This is a simple modification and can be completed easily by anyone that possesses even a small bit of mechanical ability. This will help solve hard starting fuel related issues common with 6.2 and 6.5 diesel engines. How? The check valve modification prevents drain back to correct the fuel issue common to older 6.2 and 6.5 diesel engines. When the engine sits for any length of time the fuel tends to drain back thru the line and creates a hard start situation. If the fuel is drained back thru the system it requires the starter motor to work overtime to repressurize the fuel system during start up. The check valve limits the fuel flow to one direction only so the fuel cannot drain back thru the line. As a result, the engine will start quicker as it does not have to repressurize the fuel filter/system. This saves a lot of wear and tear on the starting system and batteries.

Note on the check valve: The check valve linked below fits a 3/8" fuel line found on this particular 6.2 Diesel engine in this CUCV truck. This modification will work for other diesel engines as well but make sure to check your fuel line diameter before ordering your check valve. You may need a 1/4" or 5/16" diameter check valve instead of the 3/8" valve used on this one.

Check out ‪@DIYWilly‬ 's channel. He just performed this mod on his Suzuki Samurai Diesel engine. Also lots of great mini bike mods and engine builds there too. Great stuff!
