Chemo Neutropenic Sepsis and Flu | Getting Wiggy With It

An interesting week for us this week...just when we thought we were in the home straight post chemo!!

Chemotherapy works because it destroys cells in the body. Cancer cells of course but ALL cells, from hair (that's why im bald!!), white blood cells, red blood cells, skin cells.... You get the idea.

Because of this your immune system is greatly compromised, and you are at risk of picking up infection and viruses. My body has responded REALLY well to my Doxetaxol drug, a little too well in that every cycle has left me neutropenic. This means that my white blood count is dangerously low.

"Neutropenic sepsis is a life threatening complication of anticancer treatment, the term is used to describe a significant inflammatory response to a presumed bacterial infection in a person with or without fever. " Which means that a bacterial infection has entered my body and i have nothing to fight it...someone with neutropenic sepsis can go from being fine to being critically ill in a matter of a few hours. I should have explained this in my video...so just in case you are wondering what I am on about!!
