On April 22nd, 2019 a Child monk Buddhist initiation and tonsure ceremony was head at Seoul Jogye Temple. At this ceremony the child monks receive the precepts of Buddhism and vow to follow them. The 10 applicants are as young as 67 years old and starting with this ceremony, they will leave their homes for 3 weeks to enter the ‘Bodhi Tree Sapling School’, and will be taught about Buddha’s teachings until Buddha’s birthday on May 12th.

2019년 4월 22일. 서울 조계사 대웅전 앞에서 동자승 단기출가 보리수 새싹학교 삭발.수계식이 열렸다. 이번 동자승 단기출가에 동참한 어린이는 총 10명. 삭발수계식을 시작으로 동자승들은 부처님 오신날인 5월 12일까지 약 3주간 부모님 품을 떠나 조계사에서 합숙하며 부처님의 가르침을 배우고 실천한다.
