The journey begins in a remote region of Chile, where the local farmers have no other way to sell their products at the market than to take a small train, a small railcar, a real pearl of the region, which we call the Buscarril there.
After a session with the local shaman or “machi”, Philippe leaves for the capital, Santiago de Chile. It was in this city that one of the darkest dictatorships of the 20th century began. Philippe will collect the poignant testimony of a former prisoner of Pinochet in the National Stadium of Chile, transformed into a prison at the time.
Then departure for the west coast, to Valparaiso, to discover funiculars from another time, the “ascensores”. Indeed, this large Pacific port has an incredible number of them!
For Philippe, it is an ideal means of transport for a stroll in the heart of the city. Then, for our train lover, head to the border between Chile and Argentina, in Ushuaia. Here, the “little train from the end of the world” rolls, a little train like no other, lost in the middle of grandiose landscapes. It is in this famous Tierra del Fuego where glaciers reign that Philippe ends his journey. He sets out on a hunt for the sounds of ice...
