Possibly the most realistic threat to Western powers directly, the People's Liberation Army of China have undergone rapid modernization and expansion over the last two decades or so, and spearheading their ground forces, is this; the Type 99. An interesting (yeah, that's a good word for it...) design with some commendable features, yet some strangely backwards ones too, this beast from the east is well worth talking about just so long as the inevitable controversy is kept to a minimum...
