This liftoff wasn't scheduled but the rocket behaved erroneously
And accidentally launched during a test before it fell and crashed in a hilly area of the city of Gongyi in central China
The company that was in charge, Beijing Tianbing Technology Co said that the first stage of its Tianlong3 rocket under development had detached from its launch pad during a test due to structural failure.
Footage from the incident showed the moment the rocket appeared to lose power before it crashed and exploded, causing a huge fireball to go up.

The location was confirmed by the shape of the mountains and buildings seen in the video which matched satellite imagery of the area.

The flight path of the rocket and the smoke from the launch, from the explosion during flight and from the crash match verified corroborating footage from the scene.

There were no reports of casualties after an initial investigation, Beijing Tianbing, also known as Space Pioneer, said in a statement on its official WeChat account.

Parts of the rocket stage were scattered within a socalled "safe area" but caused a local fire which was extinguished.

No one was injured, according to a statement by the Gongyi emergency management bureau.

Falling rocket debris in China after launches is not unheard of.

But it is very rare for part of a rocket under development to make an unplanned flight out of its test site and crash.

Chinese commercial space companies have mushroomed since 2014 when private investment was allowed by the state.

Many started making satellites while others, including Space Pioneer, focused on developing reusable rockets that can significantly lower mission costs.

The test sites of such companies can be found along China's coastal areas, located by the sea due to safety reasons.

But some, like this one, are in the country's interior, in this case in Gongyi, a city of 800,000 people in the central province of Henan.

Space Pioneer specialises in making liquidpropellant rockets.

Last year, it successfully launched the Tianlong2 rocket, making it China's first commercial launch operator to send a liquidpropellant rocket into space.
