Chloric Acid: Liquid Evil!

Chloric acid (HClO3) is a very unstable, strong oxidizing acid. It can be made by reacting potassium chlorate (KClO3) with concentrated sulfuric acid (H2SO4). Much of the chloric acid decomposes to make oxygen (O2), chlorine (Cl2), chlorine dioxide (ClO2) and perchloric acid (HClO4). The resulting solution of potent oxidizing gases and acids will tear apart just about anything to get rid of its extra oxygen. Plus, chlorine dioxide is prone to explosive decomposition and is about as toxic as chlorine gas. This solution makes even me nervous! It's very cool to watch it violently oxidize varies substances. DO NOT EVER try making this unless you have the right safety equipment and background knowledge. Seriously. This stuff can really hurt you. Enjoy!
