Chris W. is a 41yearold stage 4 mucosal melanoma survivor who was diagnosed at age 36 in 2018. He had symptoms of a sweaty rectum and a small lump that he assumed was hemorrhoids. A lump grew in his groin that was initially treated with antibiotics before having surgery to remove it.
Chris was shocked to learn melanoma could occur somewhere other than the skin. He had a positive mindset and wanted to take control of his treatment. After getting a second opinion at MD Anderson, he learned he had a rare cancer, stage 4 mucosal melanoma.
He underwent multiple treatments over 18 months before entering a clinical trial for tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in 2020. The TILs eliminated his tumors and he now has no evidence of disease. Chris advocates for clinical trials, cancer awareness and urges people to take action on any unusual health symptoms.
