Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a type of cancer that affects the white blood cells, specifically the lymphocytes. It is considered chronic because it progresses slowly over several years, often without causing noticeable symptoms in its early stages. In CLL, an abnormal population of lymphocytes, known as clonal cells, accumulates in the blood and bone marrow, eventually crowding out normal blood cells and impairing their production.
