Chrysler 3.8L vs 3.7L - Why did the JK/JKU Wrangler get a MINIVAN engine? MYSTERY FINALLY SOLVED!

Follow
D&E In The Garage

For years and year it has bugged me... In the early 2000's every new Jeep generation would lose the 4.0L and have it replaced with the 2002 PowerTech 3.7L V6. It happened on the 2002 Jeep (KJ) Liberty/Cherokee, the 2005 Jeep (WK) Grand Cherokee, and even the 2006 new release Jeep (XK) Commander... The in 2007 when the (TJ) Wrangler was being let go and the much anticipated (JK/JKU Wranglers were getting ready to roll off the line we learned that they would be powered by the Chrysler 3.8L V6. A then 16 year old minivan and FWD engine! But why? In fact, no there Jeep would ever see the 3.8L V6 which along with the 3.7 would be discontinued all together by 2012 in favor of the much superior 3.6L Pentistar.

Today I think I finally have the answer to the big questions..
WHY DID CHRYSLER MAKE TWO ENGINE ONE TENTH OF A LITER APART IN DISPLACEMENT AT THE SAME TIME?

WHY IS THE WRANGLER THE ONLY JEEP TO EVER USE THE 3.8L V6?
