Classic Aero-TV: Go Go Gadget Gyro - Rick Wittridge’s Benson Beauty

Aero-News Network

This is a previously unreleased video from the ANN archives.

When you run across a Benson gyrocopter named Go Go Gadget, you just have to check it out, and that’s where ANN’s Paul Plack headed while at the 2010 Popular Rotorcraft Association meeting. Plack met up with Rick Wittridge who had with him a Benson B8 gyrocopter that was a cut above what you would expect to find.

Wittridge started out by explaining that the plainjane Benson gyrocopter looked like it could be improved on, and he applied his background with motorcycles to spruce it up. The result is a gyrocopter named GoGo Gadget. In the video, Wittridge provides some interesting background as to how he became involved in gyrocopters…he was the classic kid hanging out at the airport.

The time span between his first introduction to the Benson and actually building one was 35 years. Wittridge is a careful guy who got as many facts together as he could before he took on the project to scratch build his gyrocopter. The end result is unique, and the video gives you interesting insights into how an applied interest can produce one heck of a good machine.
