Whew, the title is lengthy! I've been hoarding this old water tank redwood for quite a few years. It's hard to grow vegetables in the cold Lake Tahoe region of California, and we wanted a way to get them year round. So, I decided to design a small test hydroponics / aquaponics system, and build a shelf to contain it all. This build is mainly about the shelf I made it for "free" from an old water tank, using my CNC router to cut some dovetail joinery, all without actually using a dovetail bit. My new vertical work table did come into play for cutting out the pin boards! I'm not really planning on talking about the actual grow setup; I haven't worked out all the details on it, but stay tuned for some future video where I may (or may not) talk about it.

The file has two CAM toolpath setups; one for the pins cut vertically, and another for the tails cut horizontally. I used really slow toolpaths to avoid chipout; redwood is incredibly soft and prone to chipping out, and I also had a lot of vertical unsupported area when cutting the pins. Download the file to get a feel for how I setup everything; one key point is to make sure the same side is used to reference the joinery.
