CNC Dust Shoe Version 3! Print your own CNC dust boot for cheap

Corbin Dunn

Hi CNC Woodworkers! I released another version of my CNC Dust Boot (aka: dust shoe, dust manifold, etc). My main goal was to improve the brush itself. I've tried several Amazon brushes; some are good, but a lot of them are terrible, and just fall apart. I decided to try a better one from McMasterCarr, and I realized I could improve on my design to allow the brush to attach with no glue, and just a tslot. This particular dust boot is on my Avid CNC with a HITECO spindle, but it is adaptable to almost any spindle size. The main limitations are the base size itself; it might be too large for some small hobby machines, and the Fusion file would need modification to make it work.

Definitely watch version 2's video to see all my design goals:    • CNC Build Ep 10: Print Your Own CNC D...

I include: the original Autodesk Fusion 360 file, which is setup "parametrically" to allow easy tweaking of the design. I also exported various common sizes as STL's for the dust port and spindle diameter, based on requests I have had from people. Again, my goal was to be able to 3d print it on my Prusa Mk3, so any printer with a size similar to this (or larger) should be able to print each piece. Download it and print your own copy!

Regarding Slicer settings to make the clamp better: Check out Prusa's information on using modifiers. https://help.prusa3d.com/article/modi... if that is confusing, send me an email and I can set up a file as an example.

As before, if you don't want to print this yourself, then I'd recommend checking out the Etsy Store for OneGuyInAShop and buy one of his excellent designs: https://www.etsy.com/shop/OneGuyInAShop (no affiliation).
