Coleman 100cc go kart clutch problem and fix

Follow
Rafael Gonzalez

I purchased two Coleman RTK100 (CK100) go karts in December of this year and both stopped running within the first hour of operation. Aside from nuts and bolts that fell out, the oil capacity in the manual was misstated as .6 L. This engine calls for .35 L. After some diagnostics I determined the problem was the centrifugal clutches. Symptoms include the karts trying to take off on their own and loss of power (bogging out) with added resistance. Turns out the clutches were not properly lubricated from the factory. If you lift the karts and they run fine, but bog out when set down (or take off) this may indicate a faulty clutch. With the help of the video below this description I disassembled both clutches, sanded and properly lubricated the clutches to remedy the issue. This video will show the sound you’ll hear if your clutch is dry or bad and how to remove the clutch. Once you've completed the removal you can watch the following video to repair the clutch. Hope this helps!
