Overview of the hyperbola 2:15
For the hyperbola x29y2+9=0, find the following and sketch its graph. Vertices, foci, length of transverse axis, asymptotes. 4:48
Find the equation for the hyperbola with vertices at (0, 2), (0, 2) and asymptotes y=2x and y=2x. Sketch its graph as well. 11:50
You try: Find the equation for the hyperbola with vertices at (3, 0), (3, 0) and foci at (4, 0), (4, 0). Sketch its graph as well. 16:03

Our last conic section section is the hyperbola. The hyperbola has an equation that looks almost identical to that of an ellipse, the only difference is that it has one negative term instead of both being positive. Unlike the ellipse where we looked for the larger denominator as being associated with the major axis, for the hyperbola we look at which term is positive which indicates the transverse axis. How to graph, find the foci, find the asymptotes, and find the vertices are also discussed.
