We begin by discussing why every red eye is not conjunctivitis, the difference between hyperemia and conjunctivitis and symptoms. the patient with conjunctivitis, that is the inflammation of the conjunctiva present with nonspecific symptoms like the grittiness, lacrimation, foreign body sensation, itching and photophobia. sometimes patients with conjunctivitis can also develop colored haloes, it must be differentiated from colored haloes of the acute congestive glaucoma.

Conjunctivitis can be classified into infective and noninfective. based on the type of discharge we have watery/serous, mucoid discharge and purulent discharge.
