The road to completing complex civil infrastructure projects on time and budget starts by building strong relationships. When PCL partnered with the City of Edmonton to build the Metro Line LRT Extension in January 2020, both teams agreed to use a Construction Management delivery method due to its collaborative process, and focus on teamwork and risk management.

Not only was this LRT project completed on time and on budget, but it demonstrated the benefits of being able to manage risk early in the design and preconstruction phases.

Realistic budgets were set, resources were secured early, and the project schedule became flexible to help prepare the project lifecycle for unforeseen setbacks – like the COVID19 pandemic. As construction projects around the world had to adjust to long delivery delays due the supply chain issues caused by COVID19, this project team was able to navigate and solve complex problems without adding costly delays due to the strong relationships built before the first shovel hit the ground.
