Cooking Up A Comet | Adler Planetarium

Follow
Adler Planetarium

From the furthest reaches of our solar system, comets occasionally make dramatic appearances in our sky. Comets contain a nucleus made of water, ice, dust and frozen gases. Studying what a comet is made of helps scientists learn more about the origins of our solar system. Watch educator Kyle Sater and astronomer Mark Hammergren create a comet with household materials (and dry ice)!

The Adler Planetarium is the first planetarium in the Western Hemisphere! Located on Chicago’s lakeshore, the museum typically hosts more than half a million visitors each year and reaches millions more through youth STEAM programs, neighborhood skywatching events, peoplepowered research, and other outreach efforts. Today, the Adler is bringing our unique approach—scientific exploration rooted in community and connection—to guests from around the world who can enjoy the digital Adler from their own homes, libraries, schools or offices.
