Corey Stevenson is releasing the summer breakup anthem on Sunday, July 2, when ‘If You’re Leaving’ goes to streaming platforms.


The Man, West Virginia, native has been grinding over the last two years playing shows and fine tuning his craft. When he put pen to paper with this latest song, he knew it was time to release something new and this would be the song that put him back in the studio.


What he calls a breakup anthem, ‘If You’re Leaving’ tells the story of how Corey himself might deal with a breakup.


“When I go through a break up, I don’t sit around and mope – I deal with it by trying to have a good time,” he said. “I have been hearing all these sad breakup songs and I wanted to record something for people who are like me.”


The windows down, turnitup 90s country with southern rock collaboration that namedrops rising country music superstar Jelly Roll is exactly what people need when going through a heartbreak.


“Why sulk when you can party? That’s a lot more fun,” Stevenson said. “This song has something for anybody who is a fan of country music.”


One of the places where Stevenson plays regular shows – Wings, etc. in Boiling Springs, South Carolina – believed in the song so much they helped finance having it recorded.


“It’s such a great feeling when people believe in you,” he said. “I’m so excited to see where this song can go and to hear how people react to this way of coping with a breakup.
