In San Jose, the capital, Philippe meets a cowgirl who is passionate about rodeo. At the “Atlantic” station in San Jose, he takes the train to Cartago, the former capital of Costa Rica. In this rickety train, the travelers have a very local philosophy based on “pura vida”, pure life. On the Atlantic coast, the globetrotter sets off to meet the Cabecar Indians, including Sebastian, who studies the venomous snakes of the jungle. In the kingdom of banana farms, workers invented an ingenious system of suspended rails to transport bunches pulled by mules.
