I interviewed Craig Venter for my book, "Do I Know You? A Faceblind Reporter's Journey into the Science of Sight, Memory and Imagination." He has aphantasia and (I think) SDAM (severely deficient autobiographical memory). This, he says, allowed him to see the big picture and end up leading the team that won the race to sequence the human genome. It also caused him a lot of trouble in school!
