On March 3rd, 1993, it was a cold morning in Skopje. A Passenger plane leaves the runway at the local airport for a short flight to Zurich. Just moments after leaving the ground the pilots suddenly find they have little control of their plane where it soon crashes moments later. The plane was operated by Palair, a small air carrier which served as the national flag carrier for what is now known today as North Macedonia.
The crash of Palair Macedonian Airlines Flight 301 was the first major incident to involve the Dutch built Fokker 100, a sleek short haul jet which was stateoftheart at the time. So how does a modern plane crash just moments after leaving the runway?
