This is a TAS (LOTAD) demonstration of how to crash Mario Kart Wii in under one minute using the Thwomp BobOmb Crash bug. If a thwomp is hit by a bobomb before it has the chance to stomp at least once, the game will crash. This bug has been known for quite some time hackers used to do it online sometimes by using item hacks (often by accident, even), and the bug has shown up in some custom tracks across the last decade but crashing it in the vanilla game without modifications proves itself to be quite challenging.

All thwomps in the game have a setting that determines how long they should "wait" for at the start of each race before their first drop; this is how the game makes different thwomps drop at different times. When a thwomp is hit by certain items such as a bobomb, the thwomp will do a spinning animation and fly into the air if it is not already up there. The game's code has a pointer from the thwomp object to its animation to allow for this to happen; however, this pointer is not actually set until after the thwomp's wait period ends, likely just due to a developer oversight.

Sorry for the lower video quality; most highquality TAS videos you see of this game are a result of a Dolphin feature where you can directly translate the frames happening ingame to a video file, which removes all lag frames in the process. Unfortunately for us, crashing the game seems to cause the video file to corrupt, so I had to resort to screenrecording the game footage, causing it to be lower quality than normal even for 1080p. I could have attempted to record this at 1440p, but the game tends to lag at higher resolutions when loading assets (namely, very severe lag spikes once the racers first load in before the race begins), which is not super fun for a video.
