If you study elementary school teaching, you'll be right in the morning and free in the afternoon, right? In this “Hot Seat” episode, TU Dresden students reveal what's true about this cliché, whether they already own a laminating machine and how much it annoys them to be called an “elementary school chick”. And why are there actually mainly female teachers at elementary schools?

Hot Seat:
Each episode focuses on a different group of people who all have something in common – be it that they share the same workplace, same degree program, or same research area. We ask them questions from our community and do away with clichés and prejudices.

A degree in elementary school teaching?
At TU Dresden, studying to become an elementary school teacher includes a chosen subject including its didactics and three elementary school teaching methodologies, educational sciences including elementary school pedagogy, school practice studies (during the semester and in block form) and supplementary studies. Students can choose between German, English, ethics/philosophy, Protestant and Catholic religion, art, mathematics and music as core subjects. In educational sciences, students explore educational processes, primary school pedagogy, teaching and professional research as well as general didactics, educational psychology and the education system.
