InDepth CRF250X Review
Intro
The CRF250X was released back in 2004 to fill some gaps in the Honda line up. It was a consolation offering at the end of the beloved XR250R’s production, it was a response to Yamaha’s WR250F, and it was the offroad sister to the CRF250R. But how well does it actually perform these roles? And now that the price for used CRF250X bikes has dipped into the $2000 dollar range, is it a viable option for riders looking for an affordable dirt bike? I’ll be discussing all of that and much more in this InDepth review of the 2004 through 2017 CRF250X.
The CRF250X has not changed greatly from 2004 to 2017, there have just been minor changes such as tweaks to the carburetor, fuel tank, seat, plastics, suspension settings, brake rotors and the head. For the most part, it has been the same bike for over a decade featuring a 249cc, single overhead cam, 4 valve, liquid cooled engine, Showa twin chamber forks, a Showa rear shock, and an aluminum frame all very similar to the early CRF250R, but with an electric start in addition to the kick starter, a wider gear ratio spread in the transmission, a smaller carburetor, a lower performance head, a 12 volt DC charging circuit, an AC lighting circuit, headlight, tail light, a more flexible frame, plusher suspension settings, wider seat...
