Thanks to Lance Mindheim ‪@LanceMindheim‬ for letting me run his CSX Downtown Spur layout as part of the MidAtlantic Rail Prototype Modelers event in the greater Washington, DC area.

Lance was one of several participants of the MARPM meet that hosted a 3 hour open house of the layout. This showcase of the Downtown Spur layout fell right on the beginning of one of my routine business trips to Virginia, so a few travel adjustments were made (that actually made the trip cheaper) and we joined forces to both offer the attendees a tour of Lance's impressive work and a chance to see HO Scale CSX train Y322 work some of the industries and run the spur on his Miami based layout.

Built largely to run on this layout, my Miami Iron and Metal (LSEX reporting mark) gondolas and Ferrous Processing and Trading (ZVBX) gondolas make an appearance for the first time. I also threw in some Athearn Genesis LPG tanks and a BNSF BX166 car.

This video shows the structured operation of the four most worked customers (FP&T, Miami Iron & Metal, Family & Son, and Sungas Services) using procedures observed when railfanning the prototype. The prototype of these operations is carried out by CSX train Y322, a third shift local and the spur is presently worked as needed with guaranteed industry service on Thursday and Sunday mornings.

I intended to have GP383 2009 run a 2010s2020s version of the train but unfortunately the 3dprinted nose was crushed when I put it in baggage (regretting that). I probably did not do a great job packing it though something tells me if it was polystyrene this wouldn't happen. Fortunately everything else about the locomotive was fine and it ran well when testing. The 2771 is perfectly adequate for the task and does well handling the train. My shortened fuse may have shown in this video, but thankfully it is an under $50 fix.
