On Thursday, 2/15/2024, I made a late night outing to the Worcester and Ayer, MA area in search of CSX S955, a loaded nuclear waste train carrying waste in two massive casket cars from the naval base in the Kittery, ME/ Portsmouth, NH area. We start out by seeing CSX M437 build in Worcester before continuing north to Ayer after hearing that S955 was there awaiting other traffic to clear. Upon arriving in Ayer, I discovered Berkshire & Eastern (former Pan Am Railways) yard jobs AY2 and AY3 switching around. About an hour after arriving, the snow had returned and it was closing in on midnight and S955 could finally be seen rounding the corner into Ayer and headed for the Worcester Subdivision and Worcester and west towards its destination of the St Louis area. We would see the S955 in Ayer at the MBTA station and then cruising through Clinton, just after midnight before calling it a night.
