Huge CSX Freight Leaves The East Leg Of Winston Yard Wye, Big Train Does Railroad Switching & Shunting With Conductor Riding The Rear Car Over The Railroad Crossing And Into The Yard. Also Includes Amtrak In Downtown Lakeland, Florida At A Quad Gate Railroad Crossing. These trains are in Lakeland, Florida on CSX.
I heard some railroad switching on my scanner when I was approaching Lakeland, Florida so I decided to go to the north end of Winston Yard to see if I could get anything. Right we I arrived I noticed a couple of railfans and a train was just leaving Winston Yard on the east leg of the wye. I filmed it on the way to downtown Lakeland and beyond. One Railfan was from the area and the other was visiting from Canada. Both recognised me. Lol
About an hour after the first train a second train showed up coming from the Tampa area. This train was on the main line. It cut off the rear auto racks and then pulled past me. Notice the signal in the distance drop from yellow to red. The train then reversed onto the east leg of the wye. It backed into Winston Yard. This huge train had the railroad crossing fowled for a long time. Most of the cars were turning around and going a different route.
After these two trains we see some wildlife videos shot by Mrs Tooth. Most of the remaining video from this point to the end was filmed by her. We see alligators, an armadillo, tortoises and some birds. One bird caught a fish and walked down a trail in front of us with the fish speared through its beak.
Don't miss the two Amtrak trains that Mrs Tooth filmed going through Lakeland. You can see me filming the first one to the left side of the picture. Notice the last Amtrak train has 3 brand new Siemens Charger locomotives. That was pretty cool seeing 3 on the same train coming from Tampa. The railroad crossing is in a no train horn zone.
Don't forget the slide show at the end that comes from the video. Best frequencies for Lakeland are 160.590 and 160.230. Most of the park video is from the Circle B Bar Reserve. The part with the long wooden walkway is from a park near Wauchula but I forgot the name. The rest is from a park near Mulberry. Most days we would go to the parks in the morning and later on in the day go look for trains. We also saw beaches on post sides of the state during the week that we were in Florida. We stayed in the Best Western motel in Mulberry since it has a great view of a CSX phosphate branch. The best frequency for the branch here is 161.370 and I use the EOT frequency for this line also. I filmed this with my Iphone 10.
