CTA Red Line - Announcements - Howard to Ashland/63

Follow
Chicagoland Transit

Before 1993, CTA's Red and Green Lines operated pretty much opposite of how they run now. The Green Line originally ran as the LakeDan Ryan route and the Red Line ran as the HowardEnglewoodJackson Park route.

In 2013, the Dan Ryan line had to be shut down for a 5 month reconstruction of the whole line. As a result, Red Line trains were sent on their original routing via the 13th Street incline to the South Side Elevated to Ashland/63.

This video is a recap of the announcement program of this reroute that exists on the CTA’s 5000 Series rail cars.

Thanks to John Curtin for helping me add some nice historical photos and Ahmed Burson for the subway art at the beginning of the video. Check out his Instagram at @ab_surd9llc

NOTE: I apologize for the error at around 16:30. There was an error with the rendering of the video on the editor which made the announcement say "47th" randomly after the "Halsted next" announcement.
