WHAT IS DISCUSSED IN THIS VIDEO:
Neurostimulation is the activation of a neuro system for therapeutic means. It has been shown if you can stimulate the Trigeminal nerve, it can possibly increase the basal tears (baseline tears) of your eyes to improve dry eye symptoms. The first device to target the trigeminal nerve was called TrueTear. It used an intranasal electrical stimulant. This device is not available any more. A new device is now available, called iTear100. This uses a vibrational stimulant on the outside of the nose. Is it possible to use other vibrational stimulants (like a sonic toothbrush) to stimulate the trigeminal nerve and treat dry eyes?
As discussed in the video, the iTear100 is FDA approved for neurostimulation dry eye treatment. It is not recommended to use a toothbrush for neurostimulation, as there are some limitations and unknown answers as discussed in the video. If you are interested in neurostimulation dry eye treatment, ask you doctor about it if it's right for you in order to get a prescription.
