D. Josef: World War 1 violin, 1915
This violin is definitely unique. In fact, I didn't even play it, other than to touch the strings because to tune the whole thing up would've taken quite awhile, but also because the whole thing felt a bit fragile, as if it might start cracking if I put it through too much strain. And that's because this violin was made during WWI, on the front lines of the Italian front. It was cobbled together with scraps of wood, and it absolutely looks different! I could go on and on right here, but you should really tune into the video if you want to dig into the history of war violins like this one. Music and history are my two favorite topics, so it was very easy to get pulled into all sorts of odd rabbit holes in researching this video!
