Let’s play a game of callandresponse with the D Major Scale. This will help you to:
Develop your ear
Play with others
Practice and play creatively

HOW THIS WORKS
1. Listen to what I play
2. Play it back
3. Repeat the exercise until you can easily play back what you hear

Here’s the D Major scale: D0123A0123. Warm up with that and a D drone before we begin. This is a key step. During the game I won’t indicate finger positions because I want you to develop your ear.

If you like this...then you might be interested in the library of callandresponse tracks I've made. You'll train your ear with short exercises as well as learning full tunes this way.
It's all on Fiddlehed, my fun stepbystep course that sets you up to have small wins every day

Tips ☝
If you struggle, don't immediately look at sheet music
If you're totally stuck, refer to sheet music on the FiddleHed lesson page
If you want an extra challenge, then just listen without looking at my fingers
Don't be discouraged if you can't get the whole song in one session. Your ear may need a break. You can play the game over several sessions.

CallAndResponse develops your ear will help you pick up new tunes and play with others. It also helps you develop a mindset for improvisation.
Some ways you can practice CallAndResponse on your own:
Play something on fiddle, then sing the same thing
Bow something, then pluck it
Play a melodic chunk, then play the chords for that chunk
Play a melodic chunk, then play it in a higher or lower octave

The backing track was made with a great app called Strum Machine [not a sponsored link, I'm just a fan]: https://strummachine.com

I hope this is fun and challenging for you!
