Damaged Standing Seam Steel Roof Replacement

Uncle Mikes Custom Things

This project has been a long time coming. Quite a while ago an errant tree came crashing through my shed's roof (my fault entirely). I got the structure rebuilt and repaired, but the standing seam steel roof replacement was just a little more of a project than I was ready for at the time. I left what I could salvage of the old damaged roof in place, then patched and doubledup the underlayment to shed water until I built up enough motivation to fix it properly.

Well, fastforward two years (!), and there is a break in weather that happens to coincide with a lull in my procrastinating tendencies, so we're finally going to get it done.

If you've watched my last few videos you've seen me make a couple of custom tools to make this job go smoothly. When I built the roof the last time around, I had a few lessonslearned that I'm going to capitalize on right now. Cutting and folding the free edges of my halfpanels were two huge painpoints that I tackle completely differently this time, and both went great! My riveting game also gets a substantial levelup via a little fingerclamp that holds everything aligned while I drill and set the rivets.

Allinall the project goes great, and the new roof looks amazing. What an improvement!
