Dave Lincoln - 'Time Remembered' (Jazz Guitar)

Dave Lincoln

I am a Ft Worth area jazz guitarist. In 2009 I was honored to be chosen to play two solo jazz guitar performances at the Winspear Opera House for the Grand Opening Week of the Dallas Center For the Performing Arts. "Time Remembered" is a very interesting piece by Bill Evans. As with many of Bill's pieces, the form is pretty treacherous harmonically. The chord progression is far from typical, with few conventional points of resolution. The challenge is to find melodic phrases that span the unusual chordal leaps, and that don't sound choppy or disjointed. It's hard to just blow over these changes as there is nothing intuitive about it. As with all jazz soloing, being aware of the melody can be as valuable as an analysis of the form (though students focus a large amount of time on plugging scales over changes). I'm playing my D'Aquisto Jazzline guitar that is strung with D'Addario flatwound strings. I am submitting this video as an educational aid to my jazz guitar students and all YouTube viewers. NO financial gain is being gained by me. Best wishes from Texas.
