Day in the Life of a Cardiac Nurse

Follow
Christian Franz

I had three great fears coming out of nursing school and passing the NCLEX last year: 1) not knowing how to do anything, 2) not finding a supportive workplace, and 3) not finding a job at all. But I am beyond privileged and grateful that all of these fears were dispelled having found the perfect hospital unit for me. As I celebrate one year as bedside nurse, I finally take you with me to work as a cardiac nurse. I have been wanting to film this video FOR THE LONGEST TIME. Working in a cardiac stepdown unit (specializing in both cardiothoracic/open heart surgery and interventional cardiology procedures), I have seen the most amazing and bewildering things at work. Whether it be caring for postprocedure patients (CABG, valve repairs, TEVAR, ablation, pacemaker placement), scary heart rhythms (AFib, VTach, heart blocks, Torsades de pointes), diverse heart conditions (CAD, hypertension, heart failure, heart attack, sepsis) TONS of blood (BLEEDING EYES!!!), TONS of poop and pee…I hope you learn with me in this video. Big thanks as well to our amazing physician assistants/PA, nurse practitioners/NP, nurses/RNs, and PCAs/CNAs who chimed in to share their experience on our floor too! And beyond all of these long medical words and jargon...LOVE and SUPPORT. These are the words that truly define my unit. I love my workplace and I am beyond honored to work with the people I work with. I will take them with me in my heart and mind wherever I go. I hope you enjoy this vlog! #RegisteredNurse #Cardiology #CardiacSurgery
