Alec Marsh took the mound in Game 1 of the doubleheader vs. the Cardinals, working through a tough start to finish strong and record a quality start. Trailing 30 in the 5th, MJ Melendez and Garrett Hampson tied up the game with RBI doubles, setting the stage for Salvador Perez's goahead home run in the 6th inning. The Royals would add on again in the 8th inning thanks to a sacrifice fly from Vinnie Pasquantino and another RBI knock from Salvy. Will Smith, Sam Long, and James McArthur would not give up the lead and would secure a win for the Royals in Game 1.
