DC shunt motor is widely used in so many industrial applications like in lathes due to its stiff speed characteristic i.e. its speed remain unchanged irrespective of the load or we can say form NoLoad to FullLoad. Like all other types of DC motor the DC Shunt motor is also widely used in variable speed applications as it is easy to control the speed of any type of dc motor form conventional method as well as through advance technology.

About construction of DC motors:

The main parts of DC shunt motors are 1) Stator: consist of Outer frame and field winding and 2) Rotor or Armature: it consist of Shaft, Armature Core, Armature winding and commutator.

About Working of DC motor:

It works on the principle of Lorentz Law, which states that “the current carrying conductor placed in a magnetic and electric field experience a force”. And that force is called the Lorentz force.
