On 28th of January 1970, an F105G was shot down over North Vietnam. Both crew members eject and a CSAR mission is soon launched from Thailand. Jolly Green Giant helicopters wait near Laotian border for clearance into North Vietnam. However, they have no fighter cover and a pair of North Vietnamese MiG21s takes them by surprise.

Some discrepancies between sources, especially about the F105G shoot down. Nature of their mission varies, the cause of shootdown varies (a MiG21 which is not likely or AAA which is more likely). Also, Istvan Toperczer gives a wrong serial number of the HH53B shot down (6614434 is correct)
