Death Valley Treasure: The Gold Mine With All The Artifacts

Follow
Abandoned Mine Exploring with Tom and Julie

The challenging hike to this Death Valley mine is very scenic and a big part of the adventure. This abandoned gold mine has more artifacts than any we have ever seen. That's no surprise since making the hike to the mine is quite difficult. It's located high on a steep mountainside, and getting there involves climbing over 2000 feet up through a rugged canyon. When we started to get close to the mine, mining artifacts started showing up in the wash we were going up. First, a barrel, then a truck frame and an engine. Next, an old shovel, a wood spoked truck wheel, and a miners camp. Then we turned a corner, and there it was. Two ore bins, two huge engines, a jaw crusher, and many more smaller items. A ground tram and head frame over an inclined shaft. Another inclined shaft and explosives bunker. A beautiful quartz vein that ran across the mountainside that was visible from far off. We entered the inclined shaft to find a colorful ore vein and extensive stopes, where ore was removed from the mine. We also found an intact windlass over a set of skip rails, a wood dynamite box, two picks, and numerous tools and interesting cans. This mine was operating around 1910.
