Deb Bateman’s life changed in an instant after she suffered a lifethreatening electric shock at work 24 years ago. She spent three months in a coma, and yearned to talk with someone who had experienced something similar both physically and emotionally and who would truly understand what she was going through. When she moved to Northern Virginia, she found our Burn Center support group and Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, where she offers peer support to newly injured burn survivors cope and thrive in their recovery.
