What do you get when you cross a with a ? A BOX TURTLE!

Chris and Martin are looking at some of the world's animals with the best defensive Creature Powers! In this clip from the Wild Kratts episode "Box Turtled In!" they are exploring the amazing shell of the box turtle!

The shell of a box turtle is like a suit of armor – the turtle can withdraw its limbs, head, and tail into its shell for protection when it feels threatened. The bottom of the shell also comes with hinges, like on a door, near the openings so it can “box” itself in completely until the coast is clear.

Hatchlings however do not develop a hinge to close their shell fully until they are a few years old or reach a size of about 2.2 inches. They can retreat still, just not totally box themselves in like the adults, or "snap" closed.
