Golden Syrup Cake

200g / 7oz Plain Flour 0.10
1 tsp Bicarb 0.03
2 1/2 tsp Baking powder 0.07
100g / 3.5oz Butter 0.75
100g / 3.5oz Brown Sugar 0.29
200g / 7oz Golden Syrup 0.42
1 Egg 0.13
150g Milk 0.09

Total Cost 1.88

7 slices at 0.26 Each.


Put the butter, sugar and syrup in a pan and melt over a medium heat then set it aside to cool.
Put the flour, baking powder, bicarb, egg and milk into a bowl and combine.
Add the sugar and syrup mix to the bowl and whisk together.

Pour the batter into a 2lb loaf tin and bake at 170c / 338f / Gas mark 4 for 45 50 mins low shelf in the oven.


Homemade Pouring Custard.

500ml Milk 0.25
100ml Double Cream 0.38
3 Eggs 0.39
2 tsp Vanilla Ex 0.12
50g Sugar 0.06
1 tsp Corn Flour 0.08

Total cost for 600ml 1.28
5 125ml servings 0.25 Each.


Beat the eggs, sugar and vanilla essence together to a smooth texture.
Put the cream and milk into a pan and heat to a point just before boiling and allow it to cool a little.
Gradually add the cream and milk to the other ingredients, stirring continually. Then add the cornflour mixed with a little cold water.
Return it to the pan and heat over a medium heat stirring continuously until it begins to thicken.
