The Denver Broncos just made a series of surprising moves that has me a little shocked. Sean Payton has taken a roster once labeled “talentless” and turned it into a contender, with the defense performing at a top5 level and quarterback Bo Nix now being mentioned alongside names like Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Patrick Mahomes. This team is poised to make serious noise in the NFL Playoffs.
The first shocking move was cutting Greg Dulcich. I was incredibly high on Dulcich coming out of UCLA—I genuinely believed he had the potential to be a toptier tight end, and we saw glimpses of that potential. His first NFL catch was a 40yard touchdown against the Los Angeles Chargers, and he almost singlehandedly led a touchdown drive in London against the Jaguars. Considering how underwhelming the tight end room has been, it’s surprising to see the Broncos move on from a player with such a high ceiling.
That said, I trust Sean Payton’s evaluation of the tight end position far more than my own. Still, I can’t shake the feeling that Dulcich didn’t get a big enough sample size to show how he could contribute to this offense. What do you think? Why did the Broncos decide to move on from Greg Dulcich?
The second major shocker is the addition of a stud pass rusher to what’s already one of the league’s best defenses. Back in May, when Drew Sanders tore his Achilles, many doubted Sean Payton’s confidence that Sanders would return this season—some even accused him of lying. Well, guess what? He wasn’t! Drew Sanders is officially back on the 53man roster, and it’s going to be so fun to watch.
This move puts the Broncos back in business at edge rusher, creating a true platoon. I can already picture a Nascar package featuring multiple edge rushers alongside John FranklinMyers or Zach Allen. Opposing quarterbacks should be nervous—this defense is about to be in their face, quick and relentless.
The Broncos are playoffbound, and there’s a ton to BOLIEVE in!
