A wonderful morning at a station I have not filmed at before. Derby Road Station serves the Eastern side of Ipswich and opened by the Felixstowe Railway & Pier Company in 1877. It has two platforms and is on a passing loop on the Felixstowe Branch Line. Initially there was only one platform however the second one was built with the construction of the passing loop in 1891. The loop was lengthened in 1999 to enable intermodal trains to pass each other. Another modification was the rebuilding of the road bridge in 2003 so that higher containers could be carried on the intermodal trains to and from the Port of Felixstowe.
