Direct Purpose:
To see the power of the adjective, in order to find one specific object among many others
Age:

3 triangles of 7 different types, prepared according to size, color and distinction of sides and angles. Triangles are small, medium, and large. There are 3 colors. Isosceles (acuteangled, rightangled, and obtuseangled) and scalene (acuteangled, rightangled, and obtuseangled) triangles. The box of grammar symbols. The writing basket with pencil, slips of paper.

Presentation:
Invite a child
Introduce the activity, say: Let’s bring the detective adjective box. Child love to hear the word detective
The guide brings the guide’s basket
The child brings the detective adjective box and the grammar symbols’ box, one at the time to the table
Take out all the triangles, spread out on the 2 tables or floor mat, without any overlapping so we can see all the shapes
Take the protector, paper, pencil and scissor from the guide’s writing basket
Tell the child that you are thinking of one of the triangle and going to write for him
Write the triangle (no capital letters), cut the paper, let the child to read and ask you to give you a triangle
The child will give you any triangle
You say: Yes this is the triangle but it’s not the one that I was thinking of, I am going to write another word.
Write: small or opposite that the child gave you, cut the word, place next to the word so it read small the triangle, ask the child if it make sense
The child say no then cut between the and triangle and place small after the triangle. So it would be the small triangle
Ask the child to read this and to give you the small triangle
The child will give the small triangle, say: Yes this is it but not the one that I want, this time we know that the triangle is small so let put away the large and the medium triangles and put them in the box,
Say: I am going to write another word.
Write: red, cut the word and place it properly between small and triangle, it will read: the small red triangle
Invite the child to read the phrase and then give it to you
The child will bring you the small red triangle, you say: Yes this is it but not the one that I want, now we know it’s red so let put away the blue and yellow ones. When done
Say: I am going to write another word : right angle, cut and place this word properly between small and the triangle so it will read: the red small right angle triangle
Ask the child to read and give you that, he will bring you one of red small right angle triangle
Say: Yes this is red small right angle triangle but the one that I want, at least we know it’s right angle, let’s take the ones that’s not right angles. So only two left.
When done
Say: I am going to write another word: isosceles, cut and place it properly, it would be read: the red small right angle isosceles triangle
Ask the child to bring the red small right angle isosceles triangle
He will bring that, and you say: Yes, this is the one that I want
When finish
Do the transposition
Transpose the words incorrectly several times
Ask the child to place them in the correct sequence
Invite the child to symbolize the word
Ask the child: which word that we were talking about?
The child will answer: triangle and put the symbol
When finish
Invite the child to clean the activity
Invite the child bring the phrase labels and symbols and do the activity by himself
When he’s done, have him to put away the materials


Following Exercise:
Invite the child to do the same exercise with different colors of papers. We can cut different sizes and different color of papers.
