Originally released in Japan in 1997, Sony's Gran Turismo for PlayStation 1 revolutionised the driving game for console players. In this special DF Retro episode split into two parts John Linneman examines the series origins and its earliest incarnations across two PlayStation generations. In this first episode, it's the beginnings of the game and its first two series entries that form the focus, with the PlayStation 2 era coming up in the concluding part.
