Findings of recent archaeological studies question everything we believe about the Mauryan Empire & depict a much more fascinating ancient world. Rather than being the sole ‘unifiers’ of the Indian subcontinent, the Mauryas were contemporaries of those who inhabited southern India in the Iron Age. They oversaw a prosperous Gangetic empire. Anirudh Kanisetti explores what the evidence tells us about this interesting period.
