Stegosaurus was first discovered during the infamous Bone Wars, when Cope and Marsh duked it out in a contest to find and name as many extinct fossil animals as they could. Most of the famous dinosaurs were discovered during this period, including Brontosaurus, Apatosaurus, Diplodocus, and Triceratops.
