Bereits seit dem 10. Juli 1887 befördert die Chiemseelok „Laura“ Touristenzüge auf der 1,9km langen Strecke vom Bahnhof Prien zum Hafen Prien/Stock. Von hier gelangen die Touristen dann per Schiff auf die Herreninsel zur Besichtigung des Königsschlosses.
1887 lieferte Krauss & Comp. München die 60PS starke Kastendampflokomotive mit einer Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 25km/h aus. Sie ist damit eine der ältesten betriebsfähigen Dampflokomotiven der Welt.
Nach einer dreijährigen Untersuchung im thüringischen RAW Meiningen, wo die Lok unter anderem einen neuen Kessel erhielt, kam sie im März 2021 zu Probefahrten auf das Netz der 1000mmspurigen Harzer Schmalspurbahnen (HSB). Grund hierfür waren fehlende Möglichkeiten für Probefahrten im Werk Meiningen. Aufgrund der Coronapandemie und den damit verbundenen Einschränkungen ruhte zu dieser Zeit der Betrieb bei den Harzer Schmalspurbahnen weitestgehend.
Es war natürlich eine besondere Attraktion und rief auch ein beträchtliches mediales Interesse hervor, die Kastendampflok „Laura“ erstmals auf dem Netz der HSB erleben zu können.
Es gibt diverse Gartenbahner, deren Thema die Harzer Schmalspurbahnen sind. HansJürgen Eicke kam auf die Idee, es wäre doch ideal diese Lok für die Gartenbahn zu konstruieren und zu bauen. Er machte sich sogleich ans Werk und suchte Mitstreiter, die Interesse am Bau des Modelles hatten. Mein Interesse war sofort geweckt und so machte ich mich mit allen Höhen und Tiefen, die so ein Bau mit sich bringt ans Werk. Zeiten wo man fasziniert gebaut hat mit auch längeren Pausen, wo der Input gefehlt hat wechselten sich ab. Im Frühjahr 2024 war es dann aber soweit, ich kann stolz meine „Laura“ präsentieren, die ab sofort meinen HSBFuhrpark bereichern und im Film ausgiebig vorgestellt wird.

The Chiemsee locomotive “Laura” is on test drives in the Harz Mountains
The Chiemsee locomotive “Laura” has been transporting tourist trains on the 1.9km long route from Prien train station to Prien/Stock harbor since July 10, 1887. From here the tourists then take a boat to the Herreninsel to visit the royal castle.
In 1887 delivered Krauss & Comp. Munich the 60hp box steam locomotive with a top speed of 25km/h. This makes it one of the oldest operational steam locomotives in the world.
After a threeyear investigation in RAW Meiningen, Thuringia, where the locomotive received, among other things, a new boiler, it was tested on the 1000mmgauge Harz Narrow Gauge Railway (HSB) network in March 2021. The reason for this was a lack of opportunities for test drives at the Meiningen plant. Due to the corona pandemic and the associated restrictions, operations on the Harz narrowgauge railways were largely suspended at this time.
It was of course a special attraction and also generated considerable media interest to be able to experience the box steam locomotive “Laura” on the HSB network for the first time.
There are various garden railway enthusiasts whose theme is the Harz narrowgauge railways. HansJürgen Eicke came up with the idea that it would to design and build this locomotive for the garden railway. He immediately got to work and looked for garden railwayers who were interested in building the model. My interest was immediately piqued and so I got to work with all the ups and downs that such a model build entails. Times where you built with fascination alternated with longer breaks where there was a lack of input. In spring 2024 the time had come and I could proudly present my “Laura”, which will now enrich my HSB fleet and be featured extensively in this film.
