Ans: Element is the pure substance that can never be divided into more simpler substances by any physical and chemical process.

For examples, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Chlorine, Sodium, etc.

Ans: When two or more than two elements combine together chemically in a fixed ratio by mass, they form a compound.

For example, when sodium and chlorine combine together chemical, they form salt.

Q: What is the difference between element and compound?
Ans: Following are the differences between element and compound.

1) Elements are made up of same atoms while compounds are made up of different atoms.

2) There are 118 types of elements known to mankind. While there is no upper limit on types of compounds.

3) We cannot split up an element into two or more simpler substances by physical or chemical process. While we can split any compound into its respective elements by a chemical process.

4) Every element is represented by using symbols. While every compound is represented by chemical formula.
